Almost 6 months down, 6 more months to go!
  • Happy Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones. 🤎🧡🍂
•
Lots to be thankful for this year, even amongst all of the craziness.
  • Reflections post 💭💭💭

Almost 6 months into Residency! Honestly can’t believe it. The time has gone by so fast. And the learning curve has been steeeep. Being a Resident Physician is overwhelming because you never know what you don’t know, if that makes sense.
•
I still remember starting medical school just 4 years ago. I remember feeling like I wasn’t smart enough and like I was in over my head. I even at one point felt like it might have been a mistake to have accepted me into medical school! 🥴 My confidence was constantly wavering. The week of orientation one of the older medical students told me that medical school literally flies by, you take an exam once a month and then before you know it, it’s been 4 years.
•
Thanking God for where I am now! From a 1st year medical student ➡️ 1st year resident! I never thought I would make it, tbh. The days are long but the years are short. Almost 6 months into Residency already. Thank you to everyone who has continued to support me in this journey. 🙏🏾

Stay encouraged everyone. You are much stronger and much smarter than you think you are. Give yourself some credit and celebrate the small victories of each and every day. 💕
  • #7thGenPartner Now more than ever, it's important that our voice be heard and that we VOTE!

  • Top 5 Interview Tips for Residency and Medical School 💼
•
I can’t believe just a year ago we sent off our ERAS Applications and were interviewing around this time! You got the interview and now it’s time to sell yourself. Continue reading for my Interview Advice for current applicants.
•
1️⃣ Be Yourself! 🤓🎨
I know this is one thing everyone says but it’s very important. Know what sets you apart from the crowd and be able to articulate why this program would be even better with YOU in it.
•
2️⃣ Don’t be shy - know how to redirect the interview back to your strengths! 📝
Some interviewers can go off on a tangent but you only have about 20-30 minutes to sell yourself. This is not the time to be shy or downplay your accomplishments. Make sure you are able to highlight your strengths and make a lasting impression with your interviewer.
•
3️⃣ Ask thoughtful questions. 💭
Yes It’s important to match into a program but it’s more important to match into a program that matches with your values and is a good fit for YOU. Do your research on the program. Don’t shy away from asking about the things that really matter to you. Sometimes the interviewers won’t have all the answers but a current resident might be a better person to ask some more nitty gritty things.
•
4️⃣ Look the part. 📸👠👞
Now is the time to slay, okay! If you look good, you’ll feel good. Even with interviews being virtual, take your time to look your best and feel confident on camera. Still get dressed from head to toe and rock your interview!
•
5️⃣ Practice! Practice! Practice! 📢
Things will be virtual this year but nevertheless, practice answering as many interview questions as you can. Do some mock interviews and also practice interview questions with a friend. Have your “Tell me about yourself” answer memorized as this is your elevator pitch and sets the tone of your interview. Make sure you have your webcam, microphone and background ready.
•
Don’t forget to smile and have fun! Be sure to share this with friends or save this post for future reference. Contact me with any questions! Best of luck to you all that are interviewing! If anyone else has advice, feel free to share in comments.💰
